Funding your studies

Funding your studies: a legitimate concern

Embarking on higher education often raises a very practical question: how to fund it? This is a normal concern, and you are not alone in facing it.

There are many forms of financial support available; some are specific to 3iL, whilst others are available nationwide. On this page, you will find the key information you need to understand the options, compare the schemes and plan your funding with confidence.

The CROUS grant

Who is it for? Domestic students on an integrated preparatory program or an engineering degree program.

Avertissement contour Students on the Expert Programmes (Bac +3 ASRC & CDWFS, Bac +5 EADL & ERIS) are not eligible for the CROUS means-tested grant.

The CROUS grant is a higher education grant awarded on the basis of means-tested criteria. It is awarded to students facing financial difficulties that prevent them from starting or continuing their higher education studies.

The admission criteria:

  • be under 28 years of age on 1 September of the academic year;
  • be enrolled on a course that accepts students receiving grants (list of courses eligible for the grant);
  • Meet the means-tested criteria: your grant entitlement is calculated taking into account your parents’ income, the number of dependent children they have, and the distance between your parents’ home and your place of study.

  • Specific support (annual or emergency): support designed for specific situations, in the form of an annual allowance or one-off assistance, depending on your needs.
  • Merit-based grant: a supplement to the means-tested grant, for the most deserving students.
  • Parcoursup Mobility Grant: a grant of €500 for sixth-form students receiving grants who change school authority when they start higher education.
  • State-guaranteed student loan: the State can act as guarantor for your loan to make it easier for you to obtain it.
  • Regional and Overseas Territories grants: in addition to national schemes, the regions offer their own grants and financial support.
  • Other grants and financial support: other options to explore, such as the Talents Grant, support for people with disabilities, or the directory of grant schemes.
